YOU DON’T SAY?
I Took a Quiz That Told Me What Kind of Reader I Am
I’m starting something new here on The Collette Edit, and I think this is going to be a fun one.
It’s called “You Don’t Say?” — a new weekly series where I’ll share something useful, interesting, clever or just plain good to know that I recently discovered.
Nothing earth-shattering. Nothing that requires a 20-minute explanation. Just those little things you stumble across and immediately think, Wait…how did I not know about this?
And for my very first You Don’t Say?, we’re talking about something I’ve loved for as long as I can remember: BOOKS.
Apparently, I Have a Reading Color (and it's RED ❤️)
I love to read. I always have.
There are few things better than finding a book that completely pulls you in—the kind where you tell yourself one more chapter and suddenly it’s way past the time you planned on going to bed.
But like a lot of things I enjoy, reading can sometimes get pushed aside when life gets busy. And lately, I’ve really wanted to get back into the habit of reading more often.
Then I came across something called Read Your Color.
It’s basically a personality quiz for readers. You answer a series of fun questions about how you read, what draws you into a book, the types of stories and subjects you enjoy and what keeps you turning the pages.
And at the end?
It tells you your reading color.
I had no idea this was even a thing.
What I Really Liked About It
This isn't one of those quizzes that asks five random questions and then gives you a generic answer that could apply to anyone.
Your result explains the kind of reading experience you naturally gravitate toward and even narrows it down further into a reader subtype. From there, it recommends actual books based on your results. Read Your Color
For example, the site describes Red readers as being drawn to intensity, high stakes and books with momentum, while Yellow readers tend to gravitate toward emotional depth, relationships and characters they can really connect with. Read Your Color
And there are other colors and subtypes as well.
The part I loved most was seeing the book recommendations at the end. It felt a lot more personal than scrolling through another “10 Books Everyone Is Reading Right Now” list.
Because we all know that just because everyone else loves a book does not mean you're going to love it.
It Actually Made Me Want to Read More
The quiz itself didn't take much time, but strangely enough, it reminded me how much I really do love reading.
I immediately started looking through the recommended titles, mentally checking off the ones I'd already read and making a list of the ones I want to pick up next.
And maybe that was my favorite part of the whole thing.
Sometimes you don't need a giant goal like “I'm going to read 50 books this year.” Sometimes you just need something small that gets you excited about an old habit again.
For me, this did exactly that.

If you're a reader—or you used to be a reader and have gotten away from it—I think this is worth a few minutes.

And just like that, we have the very first edition of You Don’t Say?
I'll be back next week with something else I've recently learned, found, tried or discovered that made me say...
You don't say?
— Collette
P.S. I have a feeling this new series could take us just about anywhere—beauty, wellness, food, fashion, travel, home, books and all of those random little things that make life easier or more interesting. That's exactly the point.
